When something tragic happens in the world, we are all quick to call for action. But what do we do? We are all quick to put the blame somewhere. We are all quick to make judgements. We are all quick to argue and post blindly on social media. We are all quick to cast fear and hate.
So what is the answer? What can we do to keep these tragic events from happening? I truly believe there is not one answer. There is not one specific thing we can do to stop them. What I do believe is the world needs more love. Why love? I believe Martin Luther King Jr. said it best with these quotes:
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” “I have decided to stick to love…Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
When you use love, great things can happen. When you have love, we can work together. When Love is present, then and only then can we start to make a change. Only then can we start to lay out a plan to help these tragic situations become less frequent.
Yes, there will always be evil in the world. But what we do next is what really matters. How we move forward right here and right now, is what will define us. Are we going to continue to argue and continue to offer support, or are we going to step up and love each other enough to make a change.
It starts with us.
