Updating your home. Everyone thinks about it. We all have that one thing we want to make look better. For me, it was the backsplash right behind my stove.
To me this pattern was just ugly. I mean, it’s probably ok, but my taste, or probably more my ADD and OCD just didn’t like it. Whatever the reason, it had to go. But figuring out how to do that in this small RV, without bringing all kinds of grouting tools and whatever else is needed to put in something nice was a little daunting.
So I started to research peel and stick tiles. A lot of people have used them and swear by them. Some people think they are more of a hassle than actual tile and grout. I mostly looked on Amazon, cause let’s face it, I’m not going to a home improvement store. Haha!
But how did I know which one to choose? Which one was going to look nice with my cabinet color?
Only a couple companies on Amazon had samples available for purchase. But I wanted to make sure it would be a good fit. So I messaged all those companies. Some sent me a sample tile. Some told me straight out no to a sample.
Boy am I glad I got samples! I didn’t like these against the wood like I thought I would. So I searched some more and found another company that was on Amazon, but only sold samples on their website. So I ordered some to test those.
I chose the second option (with the help of my Facebook followers) and ordered them that day. After about a week of them sitting on my counter, I broke them out and went to work.
It was harder than I anticipated. Probably because I am a perfectionist and doing this made me super nervous. I didn’t want to mess it up and waste all the money I just spent.
I got the first tile down and did some planning around that. I needed to make sure the countertop was even and I was going to be able to get them lined up.
They were very sticky. Which I suppose is a good thing because you want it to stick to your wall for the long run. I did pull them off the wall couple times to re-align them. It didn’t seem to take away from the stickiness.
Once I got going it was easier. Just the initial “oh my gosh, what did I get myself into” feeling was overwhelming.
All in all, it wasn’t hard. Just takes patience.
Would I do it again? Absolutely. In fact I’m thinking about doing the bathroom next!

I love the new look! I have to agree with you, the original pattern wasn’t very appealing, but the new look is very fresh!
Thank you! I absolutely love it now!
I love this post. I am a huge fan of DIY projects and you may have given me a great idea for my kitchen!
Glad I could give some inspiration! DIY projects are so rewarding!
I’ve always wanted to do something like this and did not know where to start. Love the Amazon sampling idea. I did that with my luxury vinyl plank floor as well. The sample helped me decide if I wanted to go that route before spending a big chunk of money on floors. Great idea!
Samples are the only way to go for sure for projects for the home. 🙂 Hope this helped you figure out where to start!
I’m not (yet) a homeowner, but it’s nice to see that upgrades that look so nice are also relatively easy! Fun to see all of the samples you tried but I definitely like the one you went with best!
Love this! We recently did a mosaic tile backsplash with the mortar and grout method and though I love the finished product, I could definitely go without the mess. This seems practically hassle free.
thank you! I bet your mosaic looks great though! I was worried about a mess in the RV for sure. This was pretty simple once I got going!
The new version is so nice. Looks more up to date than the prior. Great job!
thank you!
Wow, this looks great! We’ve been thinking about doing this in our kitchen, but I really haven’t researched it very much. This is really helpful to know about the different ways to do this. I think I would like to do the sticky method, too.
thank you! the stick on is definitely the easier way to go. There are many patterns out there as well.
It looks great! It’s amazing how big of an impact it can make!
thank you! and I totally agree!
Wow this looks a lot better then I had anticipated. I also agree that it looks much better then whatever was there before!
thank you! I was worried about being able to see the seems where the tiles overlapped. but it looks seemless!
This is absolutely brilliant. It’s way better than the old one. You did awesome with the diy.
