Why I Quit My Diet and You Should Too

If you’ve followed the newest trend in weight loss, you are not alone.

My whole life I have been “skinny”. I played sports, I was active. I never had to worry about my weight.

So why I am writing about diets??? Stick with me, I promise this is worth it.

Through my teenage years, I never weighed more than 100 pounds. I had an eating disorder in high school, so I was never comfortable with my weight. When I went off to college I weighed 100 pounds. We have all heard about the freshman 15. This is real. I ate out everyday. And by ate out, I mean ran through the drive through of Burger King or McDonald’s, because let’s face it, I was working with a college students income.

In 2004, I had weighed about 135. Not a lot for my age and height, but more than I was used to. Thus started my journey into fad diets. I bought into the commercials that told you if you “take this pill your metabolism will skyrocket and you’ll lose weight fast”. I bought some. Only to find out they did not work. It went on like this for years until I gave up. At my heaviest, I weighed 160 pounds before the age of 25. I was horribly uncomfortable in my own skin and wanted nothing more than to wear sweats around the house and eat junk food all day long.

Think about these fad diets. Yes, some of them may help you shed a few pounds. Some of them may have helped you lose a few inches with that silly wrap or liquid diet or pill that fights fat.

But have you been able to stay on these things or deprivation diets for a long time? And if you did lose weight, did the pounds stay off once you went back to your usual way of eating?

Fad diets don’t help you keep off the weight in the long term.

So what does work? The best diet is not a diet at all, but a way of life that includes food you enjoy, exercise, and healthy habits.

This is a hard one to think about. Maybe you are saying to yourself “I already eat those frozen lean meals” or “I’m good with the 100 calorie pack snacks”. Truth is, that is not healthy. Or maybe you count calories or points or whatever you may do. (Those are both decent options by the way, I am not discounting counting calories or points)

But maybe the whole idea of cleaning up your meals is a horribly daunting task that you end up shoving aside because it’s too much work.

Well guys… I am here to tell you I did the exact same thing. I knew that eating healthier was part of the deal to lose weight. But I always thought I could out work my diet. Meaning work out a lot. So I did that for a while. But again, my diet sucked. Boxed meals, fast food runs, and pizza delivery, will not be out worked.

In 2011, my husband came to me with the idea of starting Insanity. It was when we started this program that we realized how important healthy eating was. We cleaned up everything. We are more fruits and vegetables. We switched everything to whole grains. And it worked! Not only were we losing the weight we wanted, we were becoming more healthy.

With support and accountability along the way, a couple years later I became a fitness coach within Beachbody. I have learned so much along the way about healthy living. Not only have I learned how to live a healthy lifestyle, I have learned how to love myself again. Learned how to be at peace with who I am as a person through personal development.

Here are some tools that have helped me in my journey:

One tool that helps me succeed in this is the Fixate System. It’s an easy way to learn what foods your specific body needs to thrive. It helps you learn about portion control. Plus you get a Cookbook specifically designed to use with the container system!

Now… if you want to take your health journey further, there is an in home online library of workouts called Beachbody On Demand. It has been called the Netflix of fitness! The best part about these type of workouts is instead of a costly gym membership and actually getting your butt up and going to the gym, you can do them right in your home, anytime and anywhere for only $2.99 per week!!

I do my workouts right in our camper living room! It’s the best. Most of the workouts are only 30 minutes long! Some even less!

Let me know if you have absolutely ANY questions. I am here to help you. Visit my coach site HERE and get ahold of me today!

If you choose to do any of these options, I will be your personal coach and help you along the way.

Your journey matters. Your health matters. Let’s do this together!
